In the early 1900s, Ivan Miklus acquired land for grapevine cultivation, and with his son Franz, revitalised a hectare of vineyard by manually digging up to 80 cm deep.Their wines perfectly reflect the characteristics of the Collio area, thanks to the exemplary microclimate and unique soil features known locally as “Ponka.” This soil, composed of Eocene marl and sandstone, is rich in microelements that impart a distinctive minerality to the wines, making them globally renowned. The vineyards employ the “Cappuccina” and “Guyot” training methods, with a density of 4,000 to 6,000 plants per hectare. Production is kept low to ensure the highest quality grapes, ranging from 4,000 to 7,000 kg per hectare. Most vineyard tasks, including grape harvesting, crop thinning, and selection, are performed by hand, honouring traditional practices and accommodating the steep terrain.
