Tempranillo “Clos” – Rioja Reserva Do – Bodegas Montebuena
£19,00
Vinification: The Tempranillo grapes for Clos Montebuena are hand-harvested from 55-year-old bush vines in the high-altitude vineyards of Labastida, where cooler nights preserve natural acidity. After destemming and a cold maceration, the crushed grapes ferment in stainless steel, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. This Reserva undergoes 18 months of careful ageing in American and French oak barrels, enhancing its complexity, before maturing in the bottle for an additional year, resulting in a wine that beautifully marries tradition with lasting impression.
Tasting Notes: It presents an intense core of dark cherry, framed by a pinkish rim. Its complex nose reveals ripe fruit alongside hints of cocoa, wild cherries, and smoke, evolving to mineral and balsamic notes as it aerates. The palate is rich with flavours of wild ripe berries, evoking jam and plums, and concludes with a velvety mouthfeel and a lingering touch of liquorice.
