Piombaia is situated in La Crocina, in the southern area of Montalcino. Out of approximately 200 hectares of land, 12 hectares are dedicated to viticulture, around 74 hectares are used for other crops such as arable land, olive trees, and a vegetable garden, and the remaining ground is covered in woods. The name “Piombaia” is believed to have originated from Roman times, as the Romans named it after discovering the presence of lead in the area. The company was established in the early 1900s through the union of the Rossi-Cantini families, who have maintained owner-ship of the property until today. Roberto Cantini manages the company alongside his sons, Vittorio, Francesco, and Cecilia. Francesco is specify cally involved in the viticultural activities. Piombaia is a certifi ed organic and biodynamic company. While wine is essential in their operations, it is not the sole product extracted from these lands. Piombaia has been dedicated to organic and biodynamic viticulture for many years, employing sustainable practices and innovative systems such as “Working Horse.” This approach grants them an advantage in obtaining high-quality raw materials, particularly grapes, even in unfavourable climatic conditions. Their results are outstanding when circumstances align favourably.
