Barolo Docg Riserva – Virna Borgogno – Mathusalem
£792,70
In excellent years, those suited to lengthy ageing, we set aside a selection from our best vineyards to make BAROLO RISERVA.
Vinification: Every vineyard is separately crushed and destemmed, and the wine is macerated with skins for 12-15 days at a maximum temperature of 29-31°C. The wine then rests for 18 months of élevage in oak barrels. After this phase, 3000 litres of wine from selected vineyards are blended, and élevage is then extended an additional 12-18 months in 30 hL barrels.
After bottling, our Barolo Riserva is stored horizontally for at least six months. This process is crucial in developing and maturing the wine, enhancing its unique characteristics and ensuring its exceptional quality.
Tasting note: Very intense ruby red colour; nose continues fresh with notes of red fruit in a delicate cloud of vanilla. Dry, round and richly full-bodied, with complex polyphenols allowing for lengthy ageing.
